Anyway, Apple Mail has become a slow, unreliable application although they have fixed some of the more severe problems in the latest release. The blame has to be put on Google for not following standards but is a significant player you can pretty much set your own rules. So they use tags instead of folders, etc. I have my email domain on Google Apps, and I know that Gmail doesn’t follow the IMAP standard, instead choosing to do it their way. It’s weird because the iOS Mail app is rock solid. Airmail, my new favorite mail clientĪfter Mac OS X 10.8, Apple Mail has been going downhill by every update. But hopefully, they’ll fix that in the coming months. In a perfect world, it should have been a universal app. Yay! The only complaint is that they did the app for iPhone only and not an iPad version. It also syncs your settings from your Mac OS X application, so now I have an HTML signature on my iPhone. Now there’s even an excellent version for Airmail for iOS. And let’s face it, Google changed a lot from the original IMAP standard, so everyone had to keep up. I guess Apple has probably fixed a lot of the problems they had back then when connecting to Gmail. I’m still using Airmail now, two years after I wrote this post. It never crashes, and the search is fast and excellent. The install is at this link too.Still my favorite email client, and I’m now also blessed with a version for iPad and my iPhone. This is fully functional except spellcheck now ( text editing in email composing will not work correctly if spellcheck is enabled).įor me the huge value is being able to do propagation prediction tied to rig control and to have the full integration of winlink and sailmail catalogs for weather and routing on Opencpn Navigation software without playing games with transferring files from my windows radio winlink/sailmail computer to my navigation computer.Īll work flawlessly and together without much noticeable speed loss and the x86 and wine are not interphased or seen while using airmail or other apps on the Pi after install. Maybe somebody can chip in on hardware and software hard port assignment with Linux. I need a better hub or maybe to do some hard coding for serial assignments. I tried putting a USB hub between my Pi and the USB/serial adapter and adding my NMEA2000 USB adapter and USB Logitech keyboard mouse adapter, and my SSD boot drive to the hub and things got squirrely. Everything just worked perfect after that. I copied the modem and radio settings from my windows system. It seems to be the only com port to show up in the Airmail program. My Pactor modem is serial with a serial/usb 232 cable to the Pi. Modem and radio settings for airmail can be found here: ( you will have to change the file download type to. Go to system tools>wine>program manager and installed Airmail from downloads. You can get Airmail for Sailmail at other locations Then download Airmail for ham radio from here The install goes through a pretty crazy update process ( it’s automated though). This works with Buster and Bulseye Raspbian Winlink/Sailmail Airmail on Raspberry Pi working with Wine I’ve been trying to move everything to my Openplotter onboard system for years, but my winlink/sailmail airmail system has been stuck on a windows system until now.
